Haupai "Hopes" Puha
Kia ora whānau! I'm Haupai Puha, carving my path on the New Zealand darts circuit since 2017, switching out my golf clubs for tungsten arrows.
Born in February 1985, I've become a familiar face in the WDF rankings – holding the top spot in New Zealand and proudly sitting at No. 3 internationally.
In January, 2024, I etched my name in the history books, becoming the first New Zealander to clinch a PDC tour card.
My Journey
In 2018, I earned spots in the World Series of Darts events in Australia and Aotearoa, ranking second in the DPNZ standings. Ran into some challenges against Kyle Anderson and Rob Cross, but that's the game, right? Fast forward to the 2019 World Cup of Darts in Hamburg, where Cody Harris and I took on Lithuania and South Africa, making it to the quarter-finals before facing Japan.
But the journey doesn't stop there. In 2019, I faced off against formidable opponents like Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson on the darts stage. Qualifying for the PDC and WDF World Championships in recent years, even if the early rounds brought some tough losses.
Teaming up with my mate Ben Robb, we clinched the Men's Pairs title at the 2023 WDF World Championships – a moment that will forever be etched in our darting journey.
So, what's my secret?
t's a blend of Māori spirit and some wisdom from the golf course. The greens aren't just a place for a leisurely swing – they've been a school of skills and a mindset that's been pure gold in the world of darts. Stick around, whānau, as we navigate this darting journey together!
